The Community Colleges of Spokane Grading system provides a method to indicate a student's performance and achievement in a variety of skills and programs. The system provides for permanent record of grade evaluations which reflect successful course and program completion. The colleges operate on a quarter system. The quarter hour of credit is one unit of instruction.
Numeric Grades. Grades at the Community Colleges of Spokane are reported in numerical fractions to the nearest tenth. The numerical grades are based on the letter grade system used prior to the 1986-87 academic year and general equivalents are as follows:

Grade Symbols and the conditions for which they are assigned:
I (Incomplete)
0.0 grade points; no credit. Incomplete (I) grades may be issued only to those students whose work to date is passing but not completed at the end of the quarter and a student/instructor contract is filed following college procedure.
All incompletes must be made up prior to the official end of the next quarter. "I" grades earned spring quarter must be made up prior to the official end of fall quarter.
Incompletes not made up by the date specified in the contract will default to the grade specified in the contract.
P (Passing)
0.0 grade points; credit not calculated in gpa. A passing grade maybe issued in certain predesignated courses or experience-related evaluations for credit rather than the regular grading system. The college curriculum committee must designate the course to have a pass/fail option prior to the beginning of the course.
N (Audit)
Special registration; 0.0 grade points; no credit.
W (Official Withdrawal)
0.0 grade points; no credit. Students may initiate an official withdrawal "W" prior to the date at which sixty percent of the quarter has passed and as published in the quarterly class schedule. Official withdrawals are the sole responsibility and prerogative of the student and must be initiated by the student. The official withdrawal date for summer quarter will prorated accordingly.
Z (Special Withdrawal)
0.0 grade points; no credit. Special withdrawals "Z" are granted at the sole discretion of the instructor on the last day of the quarter.
After consultation with the student prior to the end of the quarter, the faculty member may grant a special withdrawal. The decision to give the special withdrawal shall be based on what is best for the student in light of his/her educational objectives.
Students meeting attendance requirements of the instructor but doing failing work, may be given a special withdrawal by the instructor. The grade must be changed by the instructor to a regular academic grade reflecting the proper achievement level if requested by the student prior to the official end of the next quarter.
College procedures must be followed before any grade changes are made.
