Your total compensation is your base salary PLUS vacation pay, sick leave pay, health insurance coverage, and retirement savings. The proportion of benefits and retirement savings varies depending on which programs you choose. When you see total compensation in a job posting, be aware that the total dollar amount includes all of these categories, not just take-home pay.
