This 15-credit online program meets the educational requirements for Alternative Training (WAC 246-811) for Substance Use Disorder Professional. The following fully licensed professionals are eligible for Alternative Training (WAC 246-811):
- Advanced registered nurse practitioner under chapter 18.79 RCW
- Licensed marriage and family therapist, mental health counselor, advanced social worker, or independent clinical social worker under chapter 18.225 RCW
- Psychologist under chapter 18.83 RCW
- Osteopath physician under chapter 18.57 RCW
- Osteopathic physician assistant under chapter 18.57A RCW
- Physician under chapter 18.71 RCW;
- Physician assistant under chapter 18.71A RCW.
Participants will gain advanced knowledge and practical skills in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of substance use disorders. Key topics include:
- Addiction theory and counseling approaches
- Pharmacology of substances
- Ethics and professional responsibility
- Legal and cultural considerations in treatment
- Individual and group counseling techniques
- Co-occurring disorders and integrated care
The program emphasizes real-world applications, offering interactive coursework, case studies, and opportunities for practical experience through clinical internships or practicums.
Upon successful completion, participants will meet the educational and clinical training requirements necessary to apply for SUDP certification in accordance with their state’s regulatory guidelines.
