Adult Family Home (AFH) Administrators play a vital role in managing and overseeing the operations of small, residential care homes that provide long-term care services for adults. These homes typically serve individuals who need assistance with daily living activities, such as seniors or people with disabilities.

The Adult Family Home Administrator Training Course is an essential introductory course for all Washington State Adult Family Home care providers and caregivers. It covers everything you need to meet state licensing requirements including. Successful completion of all units is mandatory for all providers and caregivers.

Technical Requirements:

  • A computer with audio and video capabilities
  • Active participation with your camera on always during class
  • Students must have at least a laptop, desktop computer, or large display tablet.
  • Smart phones can be used in addition to other devices but cannot be the main/only device

Class Registration

Register for the next class by following the link below. Add yourself to the waitlist if the class is full. You will receive updates on future class schedules.

Course Cost: $850

  • The tuition includes the book. Student will be given a PDF AFHA manual and have the option to have the hard copy of the book mailed to them for no additional cost.
  • The tuition is due in full. We do not do payment plans.
 

Tuition Assistance:

The Long-Term Care Foundation offers tuition assistance for AFHA training for individuals who are employed by an eligible adult family home and intend to become a Resident Manager. The adult family home must have a Medicaid contract and at least one Medicaid-occupied bed.

The LTCF manages a program called the Training Network. This program provides eligible adult family homes with sponsorship benefits to cover the costs of training caregivers to become certified long-term care workers. It also offers opportunities for the further development of long-term care workers.

The mission of The Long-Term Care Foundation of Washington State is to offer resources, support, and education to the adult family home community to create and sustain more caregivers and champion providers in their everyday efforts.

To apply for funding for Adult Family Home (AFH) Administrator training through the Long-Term Care Foundation (LTCF) of Washington State, the eligible Adult Family Home provider can follow the steps below to sponsor an employee:

  1. Visit the Training Network Page
  2. Register or Log In:
    • New Users: If this is your first time applying, click on the "Apply to the Training Network" link to register.
    • Returning Users: If you're already registered, click on the "Log In" link to access your account.
  3. Complete the Application:
    • Once logged in, fill out the "Adult Family Home Sponsorship Application" form.
    • Ensure you select "Adult Family Home Administrator Training" as the desired training for your sponsored individual.
  4. Submit the Application:
    • After completing the form, submit it through the online portal.
    • Monitor your email for any follow-up communications regarding your application status.

Refunds, Drops, and Transfers

  1. Request Deadline:
    1. Students must request a course drop, tuition refund, or transfer to the next class at least 5 business days prior to the first day of class.
    2. After this deadline, no refunds or transfers will be granted except under specific circumstances outlined below.
  2. Exceptions for Transfers After the Course Begins:
    1. Transfers to the next course after the start date will only be considered under special accommodations for:
      1. Health-related issues or family medical emergencies, supported by official documentation signed by a licensed medical professional.
      2. Requests without proper documentation or unrelated to the specified reasons will be denied.
  3. How to Request Refunds, Drops, or Transfers:
    1. Drop/Refund and/or transfer requests are not to be discussed during class time or with the instructor.
    2. All questions or requests for class drop/refund, or transfers must be directed to:

  4. No-Call/No-Shows:
    1. Students who do not appear in the Zoom classroom within the first hour of class on the first day will be considered no-call/no-shows and automatically dropped from the course without a refund.

Classroom Expectations

  1. Environment and Preparedness:
    1. Students must ensure they have:
      1. A quiet, distraction-free environment for learning.
      2. A reliable internet connection to participate in the course.
    2. Students attempting to attend class while multitasking (e.g., working, watching children) and/or continually causing distractions for others will be dropped from the course without a refund.
  2. Punctuality and Attendance:
    1. Students are required to be on time for each class.
    2. Arrivals more than 5 minutes late will be marked as tardy.
    3. Students are allowed a maximum of two tardies; on the third instance, the student will be dropped from the course without a refund.
    4. Students cannot be absent from an entire class period. Missing an entire class period means that you do not meet the DSHS 54 hour training requirement

Classroom Conduct

Please adhere to the following guidelines to ensure a respectful and productive learning environment:

Students observed engaging in any of the above behaviors will receive a single warning during class. If the behavior persists after this warning, staff from Continuing Education will intervene, and the student will be dismissed from the course without a refund.

Dismissed students are welcome to register and pay for a future class when they are ready to fully meet these expectations.
