Course Description: This 1-day course will help the caregiver discover how different types of dementia affect the elderly within the long-term care population. Students learn how to communicate effectively with dementia clients and their families, gain tools to recognize the signs/symptoms of dementia and delirium, how to respond effectively to challenging behaviors, and issues surrounding activities of daily living. DSHS approved certificate upon passing written exam with 80% or better.

Course Description: This 4-hour class will teach participants the skills necessary to perform American Heart Association BLS Provider level CPR. Upon successful completion of the entire course, including the written and skills tests, the students will receive an American Heart Association BLS Provider CPR card that will be valid for a two year time period. This card level is acceptable as the CPR requirement for Nursing and Allied Health programs as well as for most educational and workplace needs.

Course Description: This in-depth course will train you to apply, monitor, and measure electrocardiography tests in a flexible, online learning environment. By course completion, you will be prepared to take and pass the Certified EKG Technician Specialist (CETS) certification exam, offered by American Education Certification Association and the Certified EKG Technician (CET), provided by the National Healthcareer Association.

Spokane Falls Community Colleges' Step and Sculpt combines aerobic fitness and body conditioning in the same class session. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Course Description: Mental Health First Aid is training that teaches skills to help someone who is working with a person who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Information provided will discuss symptoms, crisis response, and active listening skills to support many mental health disorders, including: Depression; Anxiety, Trauma; Psychosis; and Substance Abuse. In-person class located on SFCC Campus.

This program provides licensed cosmetologists, manicurists, estheticians, or barbers the 500 hours needed for the cosmetology instructor's examination issued by the Washington State Board of Cosmetology. Under the supervision of a licensed cosmetology instructor, trainee students receive training in instructional methods and clinical practice in assisting students in all phases of cosmetology. Program fee inlcludes textbook, required kit, CIMA access, and testing and licensing fees. This class is 50% online, self-paced and 50% in-person with supervised teaching. Students may submit documented experience in lieu of some of the required 500 hours - for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA).

A 20 hour class to shape new, used, or recycled metal into hobby projects/yard art by using basic welding techniques. This class is for beginners/crafters, farmers, “retired and starting-a-part-time-out-of-the-garage” or even a “brush up class” opportunity for the established welders. Providing you some time and ability to have fun and make something cool using basic techniques! Students will design and provide materials for these projects. Students must furnish some supplies, clothing and safety equipment.

NOTE: The first night of class the instructor will give a safety orientation, along with a list of supplies the students will need. Students that miss the safety orientation cannot be admitted into the welding shop.

Learn to operate a tractor-trailer during classroom instruction and on-the-road training. This course prepares students for the CDL Class A written and driving tests, and meets all State of Washington entry-level requirements for the trucking industry. This program also meets the 160-hour Washington State requirement. Through classes and on-the-road practice, you’ll learn to safely drive Class A combination vehicles, with additional study in airbrakes. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion.

This class will examine the role NATO has played in the ongoing war since Russian invaded Ukraine on January 24, 2022. The perspectives of both the U.S. and Russia will be explored along with considerations of NATO’s standing under the Trump administration. Threatened by the possibility of another NATO member on its borders, Putin believed Russia’s aggression was justified.  The U.S., however, and Western Europe disagree and view the Russian action as the beginning of Russian expansion.

Unleash your creativity and transform scrap metal into stunning yard art in this hands-on 20-hour welding class! Explore the exciting world of metalworking as you learn basic welding techniques, brazing, and cutting to craft one-of-a-kind sculptures and unique decorative pieces. You'll have the freedom to design and create your own projects, bringing your ideas to life with the materials you choose.

Note: On the first night, the instructor will guide you through a crucial safety orientation and provide a list of materials you'll need and proper attire.Students who miss the safety orientation will not be allowed to enter the welding shop.

Student supplies: metal for projects (steel, aluminum, titanium, stainless steel) and safety glasses.

This class teaches the fundamentals of the acrylic pouring art form. Students will learn about basic color theory, hues, saturation, value, and paint movement, as well as the basic tools used for acrylic pouring and will use silicon as a medium to generate "cells" in their art. Students will get to take home their creations at the end of the class!

Classes for continuing and advancing Tai Chi students will be taught by Master Jim in nine 90-minute Zoom classes.  The class will cover the 54 movement Choy Short Form and the traditional 108 Yang Long Form.  Each class will begin with a short (3-5 minute) prerecorded video introducing a concept from the Tai Chi Classics.  Questions, topics and movements will be solicited from registered students via email up to 2 days before class; these submittals will be organized and addressed by Master Jim.  In-person questions will be discussed as time allows.  You need not attend the live in-person class; each class will be recorded, and video links will be sent to all people who are registered.

This is a totally Beginner class, no previous dance experience needed. This class will improve your balance and memory while having fun. QiGong is a series of gentle slow movements and controlled deep breathing like those of tai chi designed to counter the extreme effects of stress on your body.  In addition, research shows that QiGong can also improve strength, flexibility, and endurance. This course is designed for all ages and can be done either sitting or standing, and all you need are comfortable, loose-fitting clothes and shoes. This class is taught by a Doctor of Chiropractic who believes in the positive health benefits of QiGong and invites you to come give it a try!

This is a Beginner Plus class. If you already know at least 10 line dances and/or feel comfortable learning at least two new dances at every class, then this class is for you. Beginner Plus line dances are generally faster paced and/or have tags, tempo changes, restarts, etc. but no worries as Sandy will make sure that you are having fun while challenging your memory. Have you ever wanted to keep chickens and save money on fresh eggs? Our three Chicken Farming workshops are independent from one another and provide well-researched, valuable instruction for starting your very own backyard chicken farm.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Chicken Farming This workshop is a great first step into chicken farming and goes over helpful information to let you hit the ground running!

Workshop 2: Housing This workshop will deal with optimal housing, space, location, and will even include original designs that you can utilize in your own farming.

Workshop 3: Advanced This workshop will be for those who have some experience in chicken farming and are looking to further their knowledge on the subject and take their chicken farming to the next level.

All workshops will be held online, and while they do not build officially upon one another, the knowledge gained in each workshop greatly enhances the understanding of Chicken Farming as a whole.

In this class, you will learn about a unique, outside the box way to cash in on a lucrative full or part-time career. Instructor Lisa Foster has voiced commercials for dozens of businesses and is a well-known radio personality in the Seattle broadcast market. She has been coaching and instructing beginning voice-over talents for over 10 years.

The goal of this course is to provide students with the skills to climb trees in a safe and efficient manner. The course will cover techniques for tree inspection, setting lines, work positioning, ascending and knot tying. For beginning and experienced tree workers as well as recreational tree climbers.

Students will need to bring the following supplies to the first day of class: Atlas gloves, Z87+ eyewear, and hiking boots.

An Introductory Arboriculture course which may be beneficial for individuals preparing for the International Society of Arboriculture certification exam. This class provides an introduction to the science behind arboriculture for the working arborist, or for those who are interested in the field. Topics include basic plant biology, tree selection, installation, the tree-soil connection, pruning, nutrient management, diagnosis and integrated pest management.

It is recommended that the students purchase the ISA Certified Arborist Study Guide, 4th edition for the Arborist Certification Exam, but it is not required for this course. 

Learn the fundamentals of safe home canning and explore practical methods beyond canning to preserve your food with confidence. This comprehensive course covers the differences between water bath and pressure canning, including which foods require each method and why. You'll also delve into essential terminology, equipment, and how to find reliable, tested recipes to ensure safe and successful preservation. Additionally, discover techniques such as fermentation, dehydration, freezing, and microclimate storage to reduce food waste, maintain nutrients, enhance flavor, and provide sustainable, long-term food storage solutions.

Participants will perform in a small jazz combo, focusing on improvised solos in a variety of styles including bebop, swing, fusion, and rock, with at least one performance at the department jazz concert. These groups meet once a week for 2 hours, scheduled by the members and instructor, and are open to any instrument or voice. Emphasizing a variety of musical styles in jazz tradition and contemporary styles, these ensembles use lead sheets to create arrangements, improvise backgrounds for solos and melodies, and perform solos over chord progressions. Players of varying instrument types and skill levels, including vocalists, are welcome to participate.
