The Foundations of Healthcare series provides introductory and foundational knowledge and skills for individuals interested in transitioning to or pursuing a career in healthcare.
A series of short courses, completed over 10 weeks, where participants will learn about:
- The Healthcare System in the U.S, including government, private, and non-profit organizations, regulations, and funding.
- Introductory concepts of Human Systems, functions and terminology.
- Communication and professional standards for healthcare careers.
- Introductory concepts for technology used in healthcare.
- Certifications for CPR, First-Aid (FA), and Infectious disease (Blood Borne Pathogens)
Participants will be prepared to pursue entry level positions in healthcare and gain the knowledge to identify appropriate career paths for their future. Along with the standard industry recognized certifications for CPR/FA and BBP, participants will earn micro credentials for successfully completing each short course, that can be reflected on their resume or social media (LinkedIn) accounts.
Micro-credentials can be earned for:
- “Foundations of Healthcare”
- “Foundations of Human Systems”
- “Foundations of Medical Terminology”
- “Foundations for Healthcare Communications”
- “Foundations for Healthcare Technology”
- “Foundations of Healthcare Safety” (includes CPR, FA, BBP)
The Foundations of Healthcare series is designed to provide introductory knowledge and skills for a broad range of future career paths in healthcare. Completing these short courses will provide additional opportunities to enter the healthcare workforce, and the option to demonstrate this training to potential employers through micro-credentials backed by Spokane Colleges. The series does not grant licensure or certification in a specific healthcare profession.
