Course Description:  This two-hour training provides essential knowledge and practical guidance for individuals who may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) in the workplace. Participants will learn how to recognize, prevent, and respond to exposure risks in alignment with OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030).

Brush up on your HCA/NAC skills prior to taking your state skills test, or get updated skills for a job. This 4 hour class will enable students to practice their care-giving skills in our lab under the supervision of a trained professional in the industry.

Course Description: The phlebotomy program prepares individuals to draw blood specimens for testing purposes. Classes for continuing and advancing Tai Chi students will be taught by Master Jim in nine 90-minute Zoom classes.  The class will cover the 54 movement Choy Short Form and the traditional 108 Yang Long Form.  Each class will begin with a short (3-5 minute) prerecorded video introducing a concept from the Tai Chi Classics.  Questions, topics and movements will be solicited from registered students via email up to 2 days before class; these submittals will be organized and addressed by Master Jim.  In-person questions will be discussed as time allows.  You need not attend the live in-person class; each class will be recorded, and video links will be sent to all people who are registered.

This is a Beginner Plus class. If you already know at least 10 line dances and/or feel comfortable learning at least two new dances at every class, then this class is for you. Beginner Plus line dances are generally faster paced and/or have tags, tempo changes, restarts, etc. but no worries as Sandy will make sure that you are having fun while challenging your memory. The professional opportunities to care for the growing number of people who will use the supportive assistance offered in day treatment, assisted living, and long-term care settings are expanding faster than professionals can be trained. A 20 hour class to shape new, used, or recycled metal into hobby projects/yard art by using basic welding techniques. This class is for beginners/crafters, farmers, “retired and starting-a-part-time-out-of-the-garage” or even a “brush up class” opportunity for the established welders. Providing you some time and ability to have fun and make something cool using basic techniques! Students will design and provide materials for these projects. Students must furnish some supplies, clothing and safety equipment.

This suite of courses will teach you the fundamentals of accounting with QuickBooks Online. You'll learn the essentials of double-entry bookkeeping and managing the financial aspects of your small business quickly and efficiently using QuickBooks. Instructor moderated. 

Accounting Fundamentals: This course introduces the core principles of accounting and financial recordkeeping. Students learn account classifications, the accounting equation, and how transactions flow through journals and the general ledger. Topics include recording purchases and sales, payroll deductions, banking transactions, adjusting and closing entries, and preparing end-of-year worksheets and financial reports.

Accounting Fundamentals II: Building on foundational accounting concepts, this course explores more advanced topics including accounts payable and receivable, uncollectible accounts, plant assets and depreciation, and notes payable and receivable. Students also learn about accrued income and expenses, dividends, payroll preparation, federal tax deposits, and completing year-end worksheets, financial reports, and closing processes.

QuickBooks Online: This course provides a practical introduction to using QuickBooks Online for small business accounting. Participants learn how to set up accounts, navigate centers and lists, manage bank accounts, record income and expenses, create invoices and estimates, process bills, track billable expenses, and manage sales tax and basic reports.

Intermediate QuickBooks Online: This course expands users’ QuickBooks Online skills to support more advanced business accounting tasks. Participants learn to manage system settings, users, inventory, and products and services while customizing sales forms and tracking projects, classes, and locations. Spokane Colleges supports parents who may choose home-based instruction for their children by offering a homeschool introductory course that fulfills one of the four ways to qualify in Washington: completing a qualifying course in home-based education at a postsecondary institution or a vocational-technical institute (RCW 28A.225.010 (4)(a-c). Our parent-qualifying course is designed to be an affordable, convenient, online, self-paced course taught by a homeschool parent who encourages parents just starting their journey. Spokane Falls Community Colleges' Step & Sculpt combines aerobic fitness and body conditioning in the same class session. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun! Participants will engage in aerobic routines set to music, using a step platform. Cardio movements may also be performed as a low-impact floor routine without the step. Students will use handheld weights, exertubes, fit-balls, weighted bars, and mats to participate in resistance training exercise activities. Equipment used in class will be provided, however, students may bring their own mat/yoga mat if they wish. Warm-up, cool down, and stretching will also be included during class time.

Participants will perform in a small jazz combo, focusing on improvised solos in a variety of styles including bebop, swing, fusion, and rock, with at least one performance at the department jazz concert. These groups meet once a week for 2 hours, scheduled by the members and instructor, and are open to any instrument or voice. Emphasizing a variety of musical styles in jazz tradition and contemporary styles, these ensembles use lead sheets to create arrangements, improvise backgrounds for solos and melodies, and perform solos over chord progressions. Players of varying instrument types and skill levels, including vocalists, are welcome to participate.

The SFCC Jazz Ensemble is a full big band including trumpets, trombones, saxophones, and rhythm section (piano, bass, guitar, vibes, drums). Music performed will include traditional big band swing literature, contemporary works, Latin style pieces, and original compositions. Jazz ensemble experience preferred.

This program provides licensed cosmetologists, manicurists, estheticians, or barbers the 500 hours needed for the cosmetology instructor's examination issued by the Washington State Board of Cosmetology. Under the supervision of a licensed cosmetology instructor, trainee students receive training in instructional methods and clinical practice in assisting students in all phases of cosmetology. Program fee includes textbook, required kit, CIMA access, and testing and licensing fees. This class is 30% online, self-paced and 70% in-person with supervised teaching. Students may submit documented experience in lieu of some of the required 500 hours - for Prior Learning Assessment (PLA).

This course introduces students to the basic art of drumming as a gateway to explore the cultures and music of Africa, Brazil, Cuba and the Middle East. No previous music reading or drumming ability is required (although helpful) and instruments are provided.

This is a 4-hour, instructor-led online course tailored for those interested in teaching DSHS-approved Long-Term Care courses. You’ll learn strategies grounded in adult learning theory, including facilitation methods, learner-centered instruction, and effective assessment. Adult Education is required to teach Home Care Aide, Population-Specific, and Specialty courses (Mental Health, Dementia, TBI, DD). • Environmental Monitoring Technician – Monitor air and surface cleanliness in cleanroom environments to ensure safe production of injectable drug products. Starting wage is $22/hour.

An Introductory Arboriculture course which may be beneficial for individuals preparing for the International Society of Arboriculture certification exam. This class provides an introduction to the science behind arboriculture for the working arborist, or for those who are interested in the field. Topics include basic plant biology, tree selection, installation, the tree-soil connection, pruning, nutrient management, diagnosis and integrated pest management.

It is recommended that the students purchase the ISA Certified Arborist Study Guide, 4th edition for the Arborist Certification Exam, but it is not required for this course. 

The goal of this course is to provide students with the skills to climb trees in a safe and efficient manner. The course will cover techniques for tree inspection, setting lines, work positioning, ascending and knot tying. For beginning and experienced tree workers as well as recreational tree climbers.

Students will need to bring the following supplies to the first day of class: Atlas gloves, Z87+ eyewear, and hiking boots.
