For healthcare professionals working with vulnerable populations. These classes will prepare you to provide direct care to patients experiencing confusion, suicidal ideation, and other psychiatric conditions requiring close supervision.

 

Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid for Adults

Course Description: BasicPlus adult first aid, CPR, and use of AED. Those who successfully complete this training will earn a nationally recognized certificate as someone who is able to use an external automated defibrillator, someone who can perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, and respond as a first aid responder. *ETP Eligible

Dementia, Level 1: Capable Caregiving

This 1-day course will help the caregiver discover how different types of dementia affect the elderly within the long-term care population. Students learn how to communicate effectively with dementia clients and their families, gain tools to recognize the signs/symptoms of dementia and delirium, how to respond effectively to challenging behaviors, and issues surrounding activities of daily living. DSHS approved certificate upon passing written exam with 80% or better.

Meditation for Health, Happiness, Peace and Prosperity

Ancient contemplative know-your-self methods, confirmed by modern brain science, are practiced and discussed to prompt and promote our full human heart/mind potential.

What is learned and discussed:

1) how to calm and tame the mind

2) how to increase awareness and compassion

3) how to find and understand the causes and cures of human suffering

4) how to help ourselves and others in troubled times, such as these.

This class is intended for everyone interested in the benefits of meditation, beginners and non-beginners, alike. Learning, sharing and practicing together will naturally foster appreciation and understanding of ourselves and others, so we can make better moves in everything we do. This is the aspiration.

Mental Health First Aid

Course Description: Mental Health First Aid is training that teaches skills to help someone who is working with a person who may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Information provided will discuss symptoms, crisis response, and active listening skills to support many mental health disorders, including: Depression; Anxiety, Trauma; Psychosis; and Substance Abuse. In-person class located on SFCC Campus.

Mental Health, Level 1: Capable Caregiving for Mental Wellness

This 1-day course is for providers in long term care settings. Learners will obtain an introduction to mental disorders and gain basic communication skills. DSHS approved certificate upon successfully passing exam with an 80% or better. *ETP Eligible

Substance Use Disorder Professional Alternative Training Program

This is an Alternative Training opportunity for licensed providers (such as licensed mental health counselors and other health care providers). The 15-credit online program meets the educational requirements for Alternative Training (WAC 246-811) for Substance Use Disorder Professional. The following fully licensed professionals are eligible for Alternative Training (WAC 246-811): Advanced registered nurse practitioner under chapter 18.79 RCW Licensed marriage and family therapist, mental health counselor, advanced social worker, or independent clinical social worker under chapter 18.225 RCW Psychologist under chapter 18.83 RCW Osteopath physician under chapter 18.57 RCW Osteopathic physician assistant under chapter 18.57A RCW Physician under chapter 18.71 RCW; or Physician assistant under chapter 18.71A RCW.
