When Soren (Rana) came to SFCC he planned to get a nursing degree, but his real passion was music. He’d played piano since the age of nine and was a self-taught student of music.
Luckily, he enrolled in an elective music class with Dr. Rosi Guerrero, who encouraged him to follow his passion and gift for music. Rana decided to follow his dream to study to be a concert pianist.
During his time at SFCC, he studied piano with Dr. Guerrero, played viola in the SFCC Symphony Orchestra, and sang in the SFCC Men’s Chorus. In addition to working as a lab monitor and piano tutor in the keyboard lab, he also accompanied the SFCC production of Narnia.
SOREN (RANA)
SOREN (RANA) GRADUATED FROM SFCC IN 2014
Soren (Rana) completed his Associates of Fine Arts degree in music in 2014.
Since that time, he completed a Bachelor's in Music from Gonzaga University in June of 2016. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree at EWU and hopes to continue on to complete his doctorate.
Dr. Rosi Guerrero has been a full-time, tenured faculty in the music department since 1998. She holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts from Michigan State University, a Master of Music from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria--all three degrees emphasizing piano performance.
Dr. Guerrero's efforts were behind the $15 million-renovation of the Music Building completed last year.
Dr. Guerrero's personal philosophy is that music education should be accessible to everyone, giving all students the opportunity to contribute to the cultural and social life of the communities in which they live, regardless of age, level or ethnicity.
