Two Sasquatch Earn Baden NWAC Athlete of the year recognition

 

Sophomore Joelle Mahowald from Lakeside High School (Nine Mile Falls) and Sophomore Micaela Kostecka from Mt. Spokane High School both earn recognition as Baden NWAC Athletes of the year.

Joelle MahowaldMahowald, a standout middle blocker, led the NWAC in hitting percentage (38.9%) and was second in blocks per set (1.05). The East Region MVP was also named the championship tournament MVP as she helped lead the Sasquatch volleyball team to a perfect 40-0 season and Spokane's ninth team championship. Mahowald has signed with NCAA Division II Montana State University Billings next season.




Micaela Kostecka

Kostecka was the 2017 XC championship runner-up, took the 2018 Women's cross country championship individual title by a 12 second margin (18:24) over 2017 champion Delia DeLeon. She also helped lead the Sasquatch to their sixth consecutive women's title and 18th in program history. Kostecka has signed to run for NCAA Division II Western Washington University next season.
