Three weeks of video game design and recreational activities.

Check out three weeks of video game design and recreational activities offered at the Community Colleges of Spokane to see how science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) relate to the real world. 

The morning offerings are technology-focused and computer-based, while the afternoon sessions are designed to get the children moving and thinking creatively.

Register your child for either morning/afternoon activities, or bundle the course offerings to provide an all-around outdoor/indoor experience this summer!

Code Your Own Adventure! Interactive Storytelling

Watch as the characters in your imagination come to life in this unique course that blends classic storytelling with animation techniques and coding. Start with a concept, design the characters, and choose not just one ending, but many! Learn how to create your own text-based adventure games with variables, conditional logic, images, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Move and Learn!: Swim, Art and Soldering 

This one-week afternoon package includes a variety of fun, engaging activities, such as swimming, creating and decorating a kite, soldering & building your own electronic beetle, as well as hiking and kayaking with Parks & Rec! Get moving, learn new skills, and explore new environments! Class on Monday and Wednesday will be from 12-4PM; students will need to bring a sack lunch.

All Day, One-Week Bundle: June 25-29 

Save $19 with this bundle, which includes both Code Your Own Adventure! AND Move and Learn!: Swim, Art and Soldering. Learn coding in the mornings and get moving in the afternoons!  Students will need to bring a sack lunch.

Minecraft© Modders 

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. To access their project at home students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Move and Learn!: Swim and Fun Art

This one-week afternoon package includes a variety of fun, engaging activities for youth ages 8-11, such as swimming, creating papier Mache masks and building your own kite, as well as hiking and paddle boarding with Parks & Rec! Get moving, learn new skills, and explore new environments! Class on Wednesday will be from 12-4PM; students will need to bring a sack lunch.

Save $19 with this bundle, which includes both Minecraft© Modders AND Move and Learn!: Swim and Fun Art. Learn modding in the mornings and get moving in the afternoons! Students will need to bring a sack lunch.

Virtual Reality: The Future is Now

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting edge class, you will learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created.  VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. Students will work in pairs or teams and VR projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. There is an additional $19 lab fee for the VR headset.

Hands On!: 3D Printing, Kayaking and Soldering 

This one-week afternoon package for youth ages includes an introduction to 3D printing, with the opportunity to print a real 3D object! Also, solder and build an electronic beetle! Finally, get outdoors, hiking and kayaking with Parks & Rec! Class on Wednesday and Thursday will be from 12-4PM; students will need to bring a sack lunch.

Registration opens May 21st. There is an additional $19 lab fee for 3D printing materials.

All Day One-Week Bundle: July 16-20 

Save $19 with this bundle, which includes both Virtual Reality! AND Hands On!: 3D Printing, Kayaking and Soldering. Learn VR in the mornings and get hands on experience with 3D printing, kayaking and soldering in the afternoons! Students will need to bring a sack lunch.

There is an additional $19 lab fee for the VR headset. There is an additional $19 lab fee for 3D printing mate

Students in the bundle classes should bring a sack lunch.

Release

Parental Release Form must be completed prior to registration in class. Form can either be emailed to ce@ccs.spokane.edu or faxed to 509-533-8479.
