A new art installation at Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) will be dedicated June 16. “Plateau Fish Trap” by artist Joe Feddersen, celebrates the ingenuity of the Plateau Native Peoples. “The architecture and pure beauty of form embedded in the everyday initially drew me to these objects,” said Feddersen. The piece is made with fused glass, copper wire and aluminum rod.

Destination Eastern, a Community Colleges of Spokane program that offers seamless transfer to Eastern Washington University, hosts information nights for prospective students 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, June 2 and 3. The June 2 session is at Spokane Falls Community College Falls Gateway Building  (Bldg. 30) room 212, , 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive; the June 3 session takes place in Spokane Community College Lair-Student Center (Bldg. 6) Sasquatch Room, 1810 N. Greene St.

Community Colleges of Spokane Board of Trustee Greg Bever has been named 2015 Trustee of the Year by Washington State Association of College Trustees (ACT). He was chosen from the 150 trustees throughout the state’s 30 two-year college districts.

Longtime Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation supporter and former Spokane Falls Community College instructor Margaret Thrailkill passed away in February at the age of 98, but her legacy will continue to live on. Thrailkill donated a life insurance policy of $25,000 to the CCS Foundation. This gift is one of many Thrailkill made throughout her lifetime and more than doubles her fund providing scholarships to outstanding Spokane Community College and SFCC students.

Spokane Falls Community College will be hosting the 18th Annual Spring Pow Wow on May 15-16 in the SFCC gymnasium. Dancers and drummers will be participating from Washington, Montana, Oregon, Idaho and Canada.

A pow wow is a Native American tradition that brings together dancing, singing, drumming and feasting. The event begins with a grand entry in which the flags of all participating tribes are brought in along with drumming.

Scott Ewing has been named Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation’s 2015 Volunteer of the Year. Foundation Executive Director Tony Higley made the announcement at the CCS Board of Trustees meeting on April 28.

Spokane Community College’s Inland Northwest Culinary Academy Chef Instructor Bob Lombardi was presented with the Distinguished Service Award at the CCS Board of Trustees meeting April 28. He received the medallion from Board of Trustees Chairman Mike Wilson who thanked Lombardi for, “all the great work you do and the image your project on behalf of the Community Colleges of Spokane.”

The Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation is pleased to announce a new joint venture with The Arc of Spokane to benefit students and help them build wardrobes for success.  Initially launched by benefactors Tracie Schillinger and Anne Fritz, Wardrobes for Success started as an on-campus event one weekend per year to help students obtain the professional clothing necessary to succeed in the post-college employment world.
