Meet Levi Taylor. He is the leading scorer for the Spokane Sasquatch Men’s Basketball Team that finished their regular season last weekend in first place with a 25-3 record. As they head towards NWAC playoffs next month, Levi found some time to reflect on his life, challenges and victories with Jim Allen from the Spokesman Review.

SCC is very excited to welcome visiting Fulbright Scholar Marcos Lopes to their campus. He will be a visiting instructor during his 9 month stay, focus on internationalizing the SCC campus. He is passionate about defining the term Latin America, both from a geographical and a historical context. He studied the historical significance of photography and the effects it has on a cultures historical context for the Phd work. Please say hi to Marcos and make him feel welcomed in our community.

Spokane Falls Community College student Armando Garcia will be honored with a Transforming Lives Award from the Washington State Association of College Trustees (ACT) on Jan. 24 in Olympia. Only five students, out of 388,000 students across 34 colleges, are awarded each year.

The Community Colleges of Spokane’s Center for Workforce and Continuing Education has been honored for excellence in the Best Marketing category by the Learning Resources Network (LERN), the world’s largest lifelong learning association.  The winning entry, designed by CCS’s Public Relations and Marketing Department, was included in a showcase of internationally exemplary programs at the 2015 LERN Annual Conference in New Orleans. Information about the submission was on display in the conference Hall of Learning throughout the three-day conference, Dec. 2-5.  In addition, the winning programs will be featured in future LERN publications and on LERN’s website.

Spokane Community College has been awarded $2,046,471 over five years to support college initiatives devoted to increasing student success and completion. The grant, entitled the EPIC Project:  to Engage, Prepare and Intrusively Advise Students to Completion is part of the U.S. Department of Education’s Title III, Strengthening Institutions Program.

Gov. Jay Inslee has re-appointed Bridget Piper, community volunteer and former Sterling Savings Bank officer, to a second five-year term with Community Colleges of Spokane’s Board of Trustees. Piper was originally appointed to the board in October 2010. Read More...
