Three Community Colleges of Spokane students are among 63 community and technical college students to be honored Phi Theta Kappa’s 2017 All-Washington Academic Team. They will be honored by higher education leaders, state legislators and others at a special ceremony at noon Thursday, March 23, at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia.

Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) will serve as the lead host for six of Eurasia’s most dynamic and highly educated emerging leaders through the Rumsfeld Foundation’s Open World Program next week. The group will be in Spokane to learn about accountable government and economic development while experiencing some American culture and building connections to our community.

The Saling Awards for Excellence honor three staff members at the Community Colleges of Spokane. Cash awards of $1,000 accompany the honor from the CCS Foundation, which established the Saling Awards for Excellence Endowment Fund in 2006. Dr. Gerald Saling, former Spokane Falls Community College President and a former state legislator, contributed $40,000 to this effort in his lifetime. Saling’s friends and former co-workers contributed additional funds. The awardees are judged on criteria that includes representing the colleges well, displaying commitment to the students and demonstrating concern for others.
