An internationally renowned cultural and business exchange will bring five visitors from the county of Georgia to Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) on Friday to spend a week learning about energy generation, land use and the environment. The country of Georgia is on the Black Sea, more than 6,000 miles from Spokane and is a growing democracy that once was part of the Soviet Union.

Three CCS students are among 78 community and technical college students to be honored Phi Theta Kappa’s 2018 All-Washington Academic Team. They will be honored by higher education leaders, state legislators and others at a special ceremony at noon Thursday, March 22, at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia.

Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery will construct a Mandala Sand Painting next week at Spokane Community College. As part of Welcome Week to welcome students to fall quarter and in honor of the International Day of Peace, SCC’s student activities board is bringing the event to campus.

Students in the Skilled Trades Program (STP) at Spokane Community College will benefit from extra support thanks to a new grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation. The 11-week pre-apprenticeship program gives students experience in a number of trades before choosing one.
