The Saling Awards for Excellence honor three staff members at the Community Colleges of Spokane. Cash awards of $1,000 accompany the honor from the CCS Foundation, which established the Saling Awards for Excellence Endowment Fund in 2006. Dr. Gerald Saling, former Spokane Falls Community College President and a former state legislator, contributed $40,000 to this effort in his lifetime. Saling’s friends and former co-workers contributed additional funds. The awardees are judged on criteria that includes representing the colleges well, displaying commitment to the students and demonstrating concern for others.
