At the Community Colleges of Spokane Board of Trustees meeting on Jan. 17, Beth Thew officially took office as chair of the board.
Thew, retired secretary-treasurer for the Spokane Regional Labor Council, AFL-CIO, was appointed to the board fall 2013. An active advocate for labor and workforce development in the region, Thew is a member and past vice-chair of the Washington State Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board and a commissioner with the Washington State Economic Development Commission. She also serves on Spokane Area Workforce Development Council and United Way of Spokane County board of directors.
Thew takes over from Mike Wilson who continues to serve on the board as immediate past chair. Wilson, who was chair for the previous two years, is a former chief executive officer for Providence Health Care. Bridget Piper took office as vice chair. Piper has served on the board since 2010 and is retired from a career in banking. Jan Wigen and Greg Bever continue to serve as trustees. All are appointed to the board by the governor.
